There is an increasingly urgent need nowadays for librarians to get together in informal settings to generate ideas – irrespective of their seniority levels or the libraries to which they belong. On the Web, blogs are beginning to give wings to professional discourse.

The Book Cube. The New City Library in Stuttgart

Architecturally speaking, Stuttgart’s new city library is a real eye-catcher. Designed to appear from the outside as an austere stronghold of knowledge, inside it reveals itself to be a spectacular kingdom of books. Eurotoolbox: Who’s it for?

Public librarians; school librarians; ‘special’ librarians; any librarian who wants to know more about meeting users’ needs for material in western European languages. The books could be displayed in staff areas or in public areas, as you wish.

What’s in it?

Four specially chosen collections of children’s and youth literature from Europe, in the original language (French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, between 12 and 15 books in each language). The authors and illustrators selected represent some of the very best in children’s book production in these languages.

How much does it cost?

The exhibition is free to borrow. You will need to organise transportation to the next borrower yourself. The exhibition is packed into 2 boxes, total weight about 30kg.

You can borrow the exhibition for about 2 – 4 weeks at a time. To book a time slot, please contact Mayte Azorin at the Instituto Cervantes. The box is available from Sept.

Italian Libraries Study Tour 2011

Eurolis is offering a fantastic opportunity to visit some of the most interesting libraries in Northern Italy 5 days in Italy between 18 – 23 September 2011.
The trip will include library visits to the town of Castelfranco, the modernised Sala Borsa Library in the centre of Bologna, Trento to visit the historic Biblioteca Communale, Rovereto to visit the Library of the MART Centre for Contemporary Art, the National Marciana Libraryand the 700 year old Library of the Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice…

Accommodation for all 4 nights will be in the modern and very comfortable Hotel Roma in Castelfranco Veneto (if booked early) near Treviso and coaches provided for the daily excursions (except Venice when this is not required).
